High Definition TV - Explained fully. High definition TV is TV broadcast at a higher definition than current standard definition TV. Standard current PAL TV in the UK is made up 625 horizontal lines - 576 visible - a resolution of 720 x 576 pixels. Whilst this was acceptable in the past, today on the larger LCD and plasma screens you can see more clearly its limits. The picture can look washed and you may see all the individual pixels of the picture and these are some times clearly visible. This is because a picture with too low a resolution has been magnified onto a large screen. The answer is high definition TV. HDTV High definition TV has three formats, 720p, 1080i, 1080p. These terms are explained in more detail in a following page, but 720p has over two times the resolution of current standard resolution TV and 1080i has five times and so on. With more lines comes a far more detailed, clearer picture, and the chance to make the most of the larger screen sizes. HD Ready - What does it mean? HD Ready is a Europe-wide labeling scheme for new TV's to show that they will support high definition TV broadcasts. They must have connectors to accept the digital HD video signal. Although an HD ready TV must support both the 720p, 1080i & 1080p HD video formats, it doesn't necessarily mean it can display the full picture resolution possible from an HD box. A TV can have a display resolution of 720p and when it receives a 1080i signal it will down convert this signal to 720p. Screen burn on plasmas usually happens when the plasma is new and displaying a static image like photos or any still image for long periods of time most new plasmas carry anti-burn gizmos that stop this issue but the sure fire way to do it is for you to turn the contrast/brightness down and switch of dynamic contrast function until your new toy has completed 200-300 hours of use letting your plasma panel settle into your home and as the panel gets older there is less and less chance of ever getting screen burn so just take it easy with your new plasma and don't play any games! Screen burn is not normally covered by warranty so be careful although most new plasmas are trying hard of making screen burn a thing of the past. |
